Every year during January and February on either Saturday or Sunday, the Metro Parks of Columbus holds a special Winter Hike series that is either self-guided or led by a naturalist from the Metro Park itself. Flash and Zach from our troop typically attend, and anyone is welcome to join them! These hikes are easy walks, and a good excuse for exercise! They typically are a mile long, but some have two, four and there’s even one that has a seven mile path that you can walk. Heavy boots are recommended, along with a toboggan hat and some warm gloves! When you get finished, the Metro Parks (supported by donations) supplies hot soup beans and hot chocolate and coffee for people that walk one of the trails in full. It’s always nice to bring dollar or two to help out with their costs, and to keep the event running! It’s fun – AND enjoyable to see the parks in the Winter. Some of the views will take your breath away!

Currently, these are the events going on! Contact Flash or Zach for details on carpooling.

It is asked that everyone who comes brings something to share with the troop. This can be bought, home-made or whatever! (As long as it’s edible!) Parents, siblings and anyone else is invited to come as well. There’s always plenty of food there, including a few special annual treats from some of the leaders! Please, join us on December 13th, 2011. The time is TBA currently. We’ll keep you posted!

Our Troop has just returned from a weekend of fun at the Delaware State Park. In all, over a dozen people came on this campout with us. We went to Delaware State Park on Friday, November 18th and stayed until the 20th. On Saturday (the 19th) we went shooting at the local shooting range. Our Scoutmaster’s son was back for a little while from a couple of deployments to Afghanistan and was able to show us some of his weaponry and was able to show us some cool pictures from his time overseas. We shot an array of guns, including a .22 and .40 caliber handgun along with a 12 gauge and 20 gauge shotgun. A box of clay pigeons and more than a few handfuls of rounds later, we retreated to a restaurant that we always go to on this campout. The G and R Restaurant in Waldo, home of the famous “Fried Bologna” sandwich is where we ate lunch and watched some of the football game. Then, after some chowder and some laughter back at camp (and after a nightly visit from friendly, local racoons) we packed up and headed for home. Ah, a weekend of relaxation. Isn’t that what we all need sometimes?
